Three-axle trailers with a total maximum weight of 3500kg or more may only be driven with a BE driving licence. Due to the high total weight, it is not possible to drive this tridem trailer with a B or B96 driving licence. If you only have a B or B96 driving licence, consider a double or single axle trailer from SARIS. Would you like to know more about the requirements for driving licences? Your local government explains exactly how this works.

Pros and cons of a tridem
3-axle trailers have a number of important advantages:
- Extra stability
No trailer is as stable on the road as a tridem trailer. Thanks to 3 axles, a tridem trailer drives less nervously than a double axle or single axle trailer. Especially when many motorway kilometers are covered, a tridem trailer ensures the best driving comfort due to the stable road holding. - Available with a high total weight to be able to take everything with you in one go
Tridem trailers are robust and incredibly strong and can always be equipped with a total weight of up to 3500 kg. This creates a load capacity of up to almost 2500kg (depending on the model) so that you can take everything with you at the end of the day. That saves an extra trip! - The eye also wants something!
A tridem trailer is undeniably the monster of the road! Thanks to the extra axle, a tridem trailer already has a greater visual persuasiveness of its strength.
But of course there are not only advantages. Three-axle trailers also have disadvantages:
- Standardly not suitable for B driving license
Because the three-axle trailers always have a total weight of 3500kg, they are not suitable for towing in combination with the B driving license. - More maintenance and wear
A three-axle trailer has 6 tires that touch the road surface and as a result the combination twists more in bends, which leads to higher wear. - Lower load capacity than comparable double axle
Because a three-axle trailer has a higher tare weight (extra weight due to the addition of axle and tires), the weight to be loaded is lower.
Choose the model that suits you best!
We are ready to help you
Finding the right trailer can be quite overwhelming. That’s why we’ve put together a few questions to help you make the right choice.
- What is the required load capacity?
- What dimensions are practical for you?
- Are you going to use the trailer professionally or at home?
- Do you need something to drive onto or into?
- Would a tipping function be useful for you?
- Do you need a braked or unbraked version?
- Is it important that your load remains dry during transport?
- What type of material do you want to transport?
Once you have answered some of these questions, choosing the ideal trailer in our configurator a lot easier.
