To hit the road with your SARIS trailer carefree, it is important to check before departure how fast you are allowed to drive in the European countries. We have made an overview of how fast you are allowed on every road and in every European country.
The Netherlands
You can drive 90 km/h on highways in the Netherlands. If your trailer is heavier than 3500 kg, then this is 80 km/h. The same maximum speeds apply to the motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Germany
You can drive 80 km/h on motorways in Germany. If you have a Tempo 100 exemption, you can drive 100 km/h. The same maximum speed applies to the motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Belgium
You can drive 120 km/h on motorways in Belgium. If your combination is heavier than 3500 kg, then this is 90 km/h. The standard rules apply to the motorways and in built-up areas.
Britain
You can drive 96 km/h on motorways in Great Britain. You can drive 80 km/h on motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece
On highways in Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece you can drive 80 km/h. The same maximum speeds apply to the motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Luxembourg
You can drive 90 km/h on motorways in Luxembourg. You can drive 75 km/h on motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
France
You can drive 130 km/h on motorways in France or 110 km/h in the rain. If your combination is heavier than 3500 kg, then this is 90 km/h. You can drive 80 km/h on motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Spain
You can drive 90 km/h on highways in Spain. If your trailer is lighter than 750 kg, then this is 80 km/h. You can drive 80 km/h on motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas, unless you are driving on a two-lane road, in which case you are allowed 30 km/h. Furthermore, in Spain you need an ECE 70 marking if you have a combination of more than 12 meters.
Portugal
You can drive 100 km/h on motorways in Portugal. On motorways this is 80 km/h. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Austria
You can drive 100 km/h on motorways in Austria. If your trailer is heavier than the car, then this is 70 km/h. On motorways in Austria you can drive 100 km/h if the trailer is lighter than 750 kg, 80 km/h if the trailer is lighter than the car or 60 km/h if the trailer is heavier than the car. You can drive 80 km/h on highways in Italy. You can drive 70 km/h on motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Norway
You can drive 80 km/h on highways in Norway. If your trailer is heavier than 300 kg and unbraked, then this is 60 km/h. The same maximum speeds apply to the motorways. The standard rules apply in built-up areas.
Finland
