FAQ – Buying a SARIS Trailer

All answers from SARIS

Looking for a new trailer?
Chances are you’ve got a few questions before hitching one up. Good news: below you’ll find clear, practical answers based on real-world use. Built for professionals, explained in plain English.

Choosing the right trailer

That depends on what you want to transport:

Still unsure? Think about weight, dimensions and frequency of use. A SARIS dealer is happy to help you choose the right setup.
Or try our selection guide.

A tipping trailer unloads by tilting — saving time and physical effort.
A platform trailer offers maximum loading space but does not tip.

Always choose more capacity than you think you need.
Especially for professional use, extra margin means safety, durability and flexibility.

In addition to the actual load, there may be other items that need to be transported, such as tools. That’s extra weight.

Are you a gardener, contractor or freight collector? Go for our strongest trailers, the Heavy Duty series, so you’ll never run out of load capacity and your trailer won’t complain during its 1,000th trip.

The difference lies in the materials, construction and attention to detail. Professional trailers from SARIS feature a strong tubular construction, galvanised steel, durable floors, reliable axles, solid fastenings and smart user details such as tie hooks and LED lighting. This ensures safety, efficiency and a much longer service life.

Driving licence & regulations

Yes, as long as the PMM (Permissible Maximum Mass) of the total combination remains below 3,500 kg and the weight of the trailer, including load, remains below 750 kg.

Many SARIS models fit this requirement perfectly.

That depends on the country you live in. Visit your local government’s website for more information.

If an annual inspection is not mandatory, we still recommend annual maintenance at our dealers, because standing still means deterioration, especially for trailers.

We have created a checklist so that you can see exactly what needs to be done and when to keep your SARIS trailer in top condition.

  • – Unbraked trailers: up to 750 kg, lighter and more affordable
  • – Braked trailers: higher payload, better stability and safer braking

For professional use, a braked trailer is usually the best choice.

  • – Rear: The load may protrude a maximum of 1 metre without marking.
If the load protrudes more than 1 metre and up to a maximum of 5 metres, a red and white marking sign is mandatory.
If the load protrudes more than 5 metres, transport in this manner is not permitted.
  • – Side: The load may not protrude more than 20 centimetres on either side.
The total width of the trailer and load together may not exceed 2.55 metres.
  • – Front: Loads protruding from the front of the trailer are generally not permitted, unless the vehicle is specifically designed for this purpose.

On motorways in the Netherlands, you are permitted to drive at 90 km/h. If your trailer weighs more than 3,500 kg, the speed limit is 80 km/h. The same speed limits apply on dual carriageways. In built-up areas, the standard rules apply.

If you are planning to drive your trailer outside the Netherlands, please refer to our blog post, where we discuss the rules in European countries.
