In this blog, we’ll guide you step by step through installing and fitting your cover correctly – whether it’s your first time or part of your regular trailer setup.
What Do You Need to Install a Flat Vinyl Cover?
When you order a flat vinyl cover from SARIS, you receive:
- The cover itself
- Elastic cord
- Closure clips
- Plastic hooks
You’ll also need a pair of scissors and a water pump plier (grip plier) to help fit the elastic the first time.
Step 1: Position the Flat Vinyl Cover
Start by unrolling the flat vinyl cover over the trailer. Make sure the straps are facing the front of the trailer.
- First, pull the cover tightly over the rear corners.
- Then secure the front using the built-in straps.
This step is essential for both first-time installation and regular use.
Step 2: Cut and Attach the Elastic Cord (First Time Only)
If this is your first time using the flat vinyl cover, the elastic cord needs to be cut to size and properly attached:
- Prepare one end of the elastic:
– Thread the rubber cap onto the elastic (rounded side down).
– Slide a closure clip over the elastic.
– Use water pump pliers to press the cap firmly into the clip. - Thread the elastic cord zigzag-style through the eyelets, starting at the centre of the rear side./li>
- The two ends of the elastic should meet at the SARIS logo at the front.
- Pull the elastic tight and cut it 10–15 cm after the last eyelet.
- Attach the second closure using the same method.
Step 3: Close the Elastic and Secure the Hooks
Once the elastic is fully threaded and tightened:
- Hook the closures together to close the elastic.
- Secure the plastic clips to both the elastic and the trailer boards:
– The rounded side holds the elastic.
– The angled side attaches to the trailer sidewall. - Place a clip between every two eyelets, including on the rear side where the elastic loops back.
Only then will your flat vinyl cover be properly tensioned and secured.
