A warm welcome at SARIS

In June 2024, Noud van Wamel started as Lead Mechanical Engineer at SARIS, a transition that quickly felt like coming home. “Through a good friend, I was introduced to SARIS, and during my interview, I received an extensive tour of the entire company,” Noud explains. “The atmosphere felt open and friendly, but with a professional touch. SARIS has short lines of communication and allows space to discuss everything, even on a personal level. It really feels like a family business, and that really appeals to me.”

Collaboration between design and production

In his role, Noud works closely with the production and welding departments, where he regularly discusses manufacturability and product improvements. “We coordinate a lot with the welding department and discuss their input during project meetings. This ensures that the vision from the shop floor is truly incorporated into the design,” Noud explains. “I also come from the shop floor myself, so I understand the importance of practically feasible ideas. This collaboration is essential to successfully develop a product.”

Structure, standardization, and efficiency

One of Noud’s challenges is further streamlining and standardizing processes within his department. “Within six months, we’ve already taken steps in standardizing products and reducing warehouse positions. This allows us to save costs and make products easier to reuse,” he says. “Additionally, we are working to apply more new techniques, such as tube laser cutting. This not only makes production more efficient but also improves quality.”

A fresh breeze through the department

Since starting, Noud, together with new colleagues, has built an almost entirely new department. “It feels like a fresh breeze,” he says enthusiastically. “Yet, we still have a wealth of experience and expertise in-house. For instance, there’s a colleague who has been with SARIS for 40 years. That mix of experience and new insights gives our department a strong foundation.”

A role that fits like a glove

Noud is enthusiastic about the versatility of his role. “I love my job because I get to work with different aspects: people, product, structure, and the big picture,” he explains. “Everything falls into place for me.” His motto? “Do it well or don’t do it at all!” And that drive is evident in everything he does at SARIS.
