If you have a standard driving licence B, you are allowed to tow a single-axle trailer with a maximum permitted mass of up to 750 kilos without additional requirements. If you need a heavier trailer or the combination of your vehicle and trailer is heavier than 3,500 kilos, you will need an additional driving licence (B+ or BE). Do you want to know more about this? The national government explains exactly how this works.

Advantages and disadvantages of a single axle trailer
A single-axle trailer has a number of important advantages:
- Cheap to buy and maintain
Thanks to the sturdy but simple construction and the use of fewer materials, single-axle trailers are usually cheaper to buy and maintain.
- Easy to manoeuvre by hand or with a towing vehicle
A single-axle trailer is logically lighter than a tandem-axle trailer. This makes them easier to tow and manoeuvre by hand or with a towing vehicle. You can also move more easily in tight spaces with a single-axle trailer.
- Available with a low total weight for cars that are allowed to tow less weight
Single-axle trailers are lighter, making them easy to tow with a smaller vehicle such as a passenger car. They are therefore versatile!
- Less fuel consumption
The towing vehicle uses less fuel due to the light weight of a single-axle trailer.
- Less wear on tyres and brakes
Because a single-axle trailer has only one axle, you have less wear on tyres and brakes. That means lower maintenance costs.
But of course there are not only advantages. Single-axle trailers also have disadvantages:
- Stability
With one axle, the trailer can be less stable, especially when you drive faster or on bumpy roads. Do you want more stability? Then choose a double axle or tridem axle.
- Not suitable for heavy loads
The maximum weight is 1500 kilograms. If you want to transport more, a single axle trailer is not suitable for you.
We are happy to help you
Finding the right single axle trailer can be overwhelming. To help you, we have drawn up a number of questions so that you make the right choice.
- How much load capacity do you need?
- What dimensions are useful for you?
- Is it for professional or home use?
- Do you want to be able to drive something in or on it?
- Is a tippable version a good help for you?
- Will it be a braked or non-braked version?
- Is it necessary to transport your load dry?
- What material needs to be transported?
Do you know the answer to some of these questions? Then choosing the right trailer in our configurator will be a lot easier.
